How does rent-to-buy work for electric delivery mopeds in London?

Rent-to-buy is a financing model where a delivery rider pays a fixed weekly amount over a defined period and, at the end of that period, owns the bike outright. At Otto Scooter, the Rent-to-Buy plan costs £99 per week for 31 weeks (totalling around £3,069), with the bike legally transferring to the rider on completion of the final payment.

There is a small starter fee at the beginning, no credit check, and no early-termination penalty: a rider who decides not to continue can return the bike at any time and stop paying. The plan includes the same hire-and-reward insurance, free servicing, GPS tracking, and breakdown replacement as the standard rental, and is available on all five Otto Scooter vehicles.

Frequently asked

Which plan is cheapest overall?
For short stints, Short Rental at £69/week is the lowest commitment. Over a long period, the Long-term contract has the best weekly unit rate. If you want to end up owning the bike, Rent-to-Buy works out cheaper than renting forever and then buying separately.
Can I change plan later?
Yes. You can switch plans at any renewal — for example, start on Short Rental to try a bike, then move to Rent-to-Buy on the same vehicle. Just tell the team before your renewal date.
Is there really no deposit or credit check?
Correct — Short Rental and Rent-to-Buy have no upfront cash deposit and no credit check. A £150 damage deposit is held against your payment card and released when you return the bike in the condition you collected it. Full detail is on our deposit & damages page.
What happens at the end of Rent-to-Buy?
After 31 weekly payments the bike legally becomes yours — there’s no balloon payment and no final lump sum. If you decide to stop early, you simply return the bike and stop paying, with no early-termination penalty.
Does the weekly price include everything?
On all rental plans, yes: hire-and-reward insurance, GPS tracking, free servicing and same-day breakdown replacement are included. The only thing you add is charging — roughly £2 a week.
